The Milwaukee Metalfest has long been the crossroads of the U.S. metal scene. For one crazy weekend bands and fans descend from all over the world to share an experience available nowhere else in North America. This year, in addition to capturing some of the performances on film, the Metal Update had a word with a few of the attendees to get their take on the festival...
All in all it ran pretty well. I'd like to thank everybody that turned out and made it such a success. We tried some different things. We tried to make some improvements on it. Next year is number 15 and we're going to think of something to make it go over the top.
- Jack Koshick, Metalfest Promoter
The sound is a hell of a lot better than it was back east this year and the bands are fucking top notch.
- Trish, Massachussets
I usually come to these things to see some new bands. Everything is going really well. It's my first time in Milwaukee so I've been enjoying myself. I love the venue and I love the fans.
- Greg, Maudlin of the Well
Opeth was not only a highlight of the first day, but the highlight of the entire 'fest. They are the virtuosos you would think from their albums, but they are able to inject a level of intensity live that you don't get on the albums - if you can believe that! Fantastic, fantastic, set.
- Hel, MetalJudgment.com
It's cool, man. It's good to see all my friends again, meet new people and stuff, see a lot of cool bands and just hang out and have a good time. That's what it's about. It's the sixth time I've been here and I enjoy it every time.
- Sparky, Dying Fetus
The Milwaukee Metalfest is really, really, really awesome. There's a lot of different people here. I think that there could be a lot more doomy bands playing than so many speed metal bands or whatever, but, you know, what can you do?
- Sammy, Goatwhore
It's fucking sick. It's good to see there's this many people that believe in brutal shit and supporting the underground brutality.
- Jesse, Screaming Afterbirth
I wish there weren't so many fucking bums here because they make me want to puke. I love coming here and I love all these bands. I love buying the shit and supporting metal. I buy it every chance I get and these fuckers are like rats polluting our scene.
- Mike, Ohio
It is a surprise for me. I expected it to me more chaotic and stuff, but it's a lot better organized than I thought. I was very happy with the performance tonight and I think it's a cool happening here in the states. Destruction is happy and the people are happy. We'll come back, man. We'll come back.
- Schmier, Destruction
It was awesome. The best show in the world, dude. It's great to get everyone together to see all the greatest bands the world's got to offer. Children of Bodom. Destruction. You name 'em, they've got 'em.
- Bob, Chicago
We went to that gay-ass Tattoo the Earth and that show was over by 9:30. Fuck that shit and those pussy-ass bands. So we came here because it's going to be a lot more awesome of a fest. Dying Fetus is going to be playing soon. They fucking rule.
- Ray, Wisconsin
I am surprised it's actually better than the Jersey one and I've had a great time. So far it's been really comfortable, a lot of room, a lot of people you know. I'm having a fucking blast. Keeping metal alive for the scene, brother.
- King Fowley, Deceased
It's the most hardcore thing I've ever been to. I'll keep coming back. It fucking works!
- Jeff, Kansas
more bands!
